    I recently bought a 2x Xeon 8-Core E5-2670 2.6Ghz/96GB RAM workstation PC, which only has a NVIDIA NVS 310 512MB x16.

Sometimes I want to play some games (Dirt Rally, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4 etc.).

Is it possible with this machine and should I choose for gaming the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 to compensate the slow 16* 2.6 GHZ single cores?

From what i could find on the internet it should run fine on games. On what resolution do you want to play ? 1080gtx is overkill atm or you must play at 4k.

At least 1080p of course but 4k would also be nice since I have a 5k display from Dell. Smile

I am kind of worried about the low clock count – the tragedy of Xeon CPUs – of 2.6 GHZ – of course, it has 16 x 2.6 GHZ but most games only use 4 x 2.6 GHZ from what I have heard?

So is there any big difference for my system between a GTX 1070 and GTX 1080?

Thank you. Yes, considering this, would a GTX 1080 “help a bit” to make it faster instead of a GTX 1070?

The bottleneck here is CPU, waste of money.
    Wouldn’t buy anything better than a 1060 or RX480

I dont know in wich country you live but here in europe we can buy an electric machine and send it back within 2 weeks without a problem.. (if you buy it online)
I would buy 1070 since its price/performance is better than the 1080.
The biggest problem will be the cpu clock speed yes, but also wich game and i know for a fact dirt rally is greatly optimized…
